Lorna has since become a very successful business woman and she writes:
Lorna Hundt (nee Campbell) became a student of Marta Selmeczi at the age a 14 at Niagara District Secondary School and soon joined the newly formed LincolnGymnastics Club. She initially competed in Artistic Gymnastics, making a switch to Rhythmic Gymnastics the following year. She was fortunate to have Marta Selmeczi as her mentor, coach and fearless leader as Marta worked hard to bring this sport to Canada. Lorna represented the Lincoln Club at many competitions in Canada, at one point placing third at the Nationals in Winnipeg, and representing Canada at the World Games in 1974. Lorna left the competition side of the sport and for some time continued as a judge and choreographer for the Ottawa Gymnastics Club, where she moved to pursue a career in travel. In 1977, she began a new company (Golden Age Travel) with her future husband, and after their marriage in 1983, they began Travel Ventures, changing the name of the company in 1995 to Great Canadian Holidays and Coaches. Their business is thriving to this day, with over 60 motorcoaches in their fleet, all dedicated to Canada with the exterior graphics and paintings. On one of them, (Great Canadian Sports) there is a painting of Marta Selmeczi, in her signature track suit, scrutinizing one of Lorna's leaps:
Lorna believes that much of her success comes from the values of discipline, hard work and determination that were taught to her by Marta, a unique, driven and formidable woman who has brought so much to sport in Canada. |
